History of APA Virginia

Prior to 1970, planners in Virginia were organized as a section of the American Institute of Planner’s (AIP) National Capital Chapter, which also included Washington, D.C. and Maryland. In 1970, a statewide AIP Chapter was formed for Virginia. APA was established in 1978 with the merger of AIP and the American Society of Planning Officials (ASPO). In 2007, the Chapter adopted the national branding stragtegy and changed its name to APA Virginia, moving away from the long held VAPA. Listed below are the Presidents that have guided the Chapter since 1970.
