Panelists discuss the role that planners have in fostering communities that are not just environmentally sustainable, but economically strong and equitable. Speakers touch on the six principles of sustainable communities outlined in the interagency partnership among HUD, DOT, and EPA: increased transportation choices; increased equitability, affordable housing opportunities; increased economic competitiveness; support for existing communities; leveraging of federal investment; and value of communities and neighborhoods.
