Registration Form

Please join us for a full day workshop focused on promoting the understanding of, and support for, a regional, strategic resources management inventory and plan.

The workshop will provide information on the importance of identifying and mapping resources as a first step in the planning process, strategies to be used to develop and implement a comprehensive green infrastructure plan and a summary of available technical resources. Workshop participants will learn:

  • the value of it as an effective tool for natural and cultural resource identification, management, protection and preservation;
  • how implementation can ensure a balance in development decisions; and,
  • techniques for developing a strategic approach to land management that includes opportunities to guide development to locations where impacts are fewer and the ability to preserve significant resources is maximized.

Goals of the RRRC Living Towns/Living Lands Program

  • Share ideas for planning and quality of life objectives in towns, villages and rural lands.
  • Help preserve the historic and natural heritage of the region.
  • Participate in local and regional efforts to identify and conserve the natural, cultural and recreational assets of the area.
  • Work to build linkages and enhance networking among area communities.
  • Collaborate, among others, with the Virginia Departments of Forestry, Conservation and Recreation, Environmental Quality, Game and Inland Fisheries, Agriculture and Consumer Services, and Virginia Cooperative Extension; in addition, the National Park Service, local, regional and national resource interest groups and agencies to identify and utilize all
    applicable resource management programs and strategies.
  • Integrate private, public and non-profit resources to build, maintain and enhance the identity of the region, and sense of place of its towns, rural communities and open spaces.

The Rappahannock Rapidan Regional Commission is one of 21 Planning District Commissions across the state of Virginia, and founded in 1973, the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission (RRRC), or Planning District 9, based in Culpeper, VA, serves the Counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock; and Towns of Culpeper, Gordonsville, Madison, Orange, Remington, Warrenton and Washington. Its primary function as a regional government entity, non-profit, and political subdivision of the state is to help facilitate enhanced planning coordination and cooperation among member jurisdictions, through the exchange of timely information, delivery of firstrate and cost-effective planning services, grant writing and technical assistance, and monitoring and analysis of area trends.
