How the Built Environment Can Enhance the Triple Bottom Line

Instructor:  Dr. Mariela Alfonzo

Good urban design is increasingly recognized as a valuable public good, making substantial contributions to the imageability of a city and the quality of life of its residents.  What has yet to be fully recognized or acknowledged, however, is that urban design can also contribute to the economic value of places. This course will explore the "value" (both social and economic) that can be added by good urban design, especially within commercial and mixed-use centers.

The Planning Academy (through the School of Public and International Affairs) is a certified AICP provider and this course has been pre-approved for 12 CM credits. All registrants will also receive 1.4 Virginia Tech Continuing Education credits.

The Planning Academy at Virginia Tech provides ongoing training for mid-career planning, design and development professionals in a range of implementation-related practice areas.

We offer a broad range of courses to give you the skills you need to succeed in shaping the built environment in the 21st century.

Register by May 21 to get the early bird registration rate!
