Join us for a walking tour of the historic City of Alexandria and learn about the importance design plays in the historic architecture, and streetscapes. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the role of clay brick in community character.

9:00 am – 10:30 am The Role of Brick Paving Systems in Creating Streetscapes

This seminar will educate attendees on the function and benefits of brick paving systems. Learn why clay pavers are considered desirable by communities, how they fit in with the Complete Streets Act, and why clay pavers’ life cycle can be an economic benefit. The importance of proper installation and maintenance will also be covered.

As we set out through the streets of Alexandria, attendees will learn about the importance of clay brick in the development of the City. Topics to be covered include historic architecture and preservation, creating streetscapes, how design regulations impact development, and how new design can be sensitive to historic districts. Unique features in brick construction will also be highlighted within the context of the city’s architecture.
