APA Virginia Membership Information

The Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association represents more than 1,500+ professional planners, employed by both the public and private sectors, as well as planning students, planning commissioners, elected officials, and citizens interested in planning. Chapter membership offers many varied opportunities, including:

  • Subscription to APA Virginia Newsbrief, published four times annually; 
  • Chapter mailings, including conference and training announcements; 
  • Reduced conference registration fees, compared to non-members;
  • Our nationally recognized Ethnic and Cultural Diversity Committee and Program which frequently hosts events to help promote a strong & diverse work force in the planning field as well as diverse communities in Virginia;
  • Professional development opportunities through skilled-based trainings, local section events,  annual symposiums and conferences, web resources, publications and etc;
  • An active Planning Directors Section, which among other things, provides a networking forum, timely input on legislative positions, and mentorship outreach to planning students.
  • APA Virginia’s content-rich website which includes access to past issues of Newsbrief, a chapter events calendar, access to a number of planning web links and job postings;
  • Multiple volunteer leadership opportunities to meet your particular interest, skills and talent; and
  • A professionally-staffed chapter office to provide business management and support for your membership needs.

 

Joining the American Planning Association automatically includes membership in our local Virginia Chapter.

September 2011 APA Virginia Membership Chart

As of September 2011, the APA Virginia Chapter boasted a membership of 1,594 members. Membership is primarily comprised of Regular members, with 27% of the membership as Planning Official, Chapter-Only, Student, Faculty, Life, and Retired Members. 44% of the Chapter Membership are AICP members.

Who is listed?
All current APA members are listed in the directory except for those who have specifically chosen to be excluded.

How reliable is the information?
APA depends on members to keep their profile information up-to-date. Please help keep the member database accurate by advising us of changes to your own address, e-mail address, or telephone number. APA does not assume any responsibility for errors or omissions.

Who has access to the directory?
Only current APA members may use the member directory. APA membership is held only by individuals and is not transferable.

Can I buy or rent APA’s e-mail list?
No. APA does not sell or rent e-mail addresses or telephone or fax numbers.

What legal restrictions apply?
The information contained in the APA Member Directory is the exclusive property of APA. This database is an asset and its contents are confidential. Disclosure, transfer, duplication, reproduction, or retention of all or any portion of the information — in any form or manner whatsoever — is not permitted by any company or third party, agent, employee, or contractor thereof.

Use of this list for solicitation, commercial activities, fax or e-mail broadcasts, telemarketing, surveys, or direct mail purposes is strictly prohibited.
