The Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association in coordination with the Shenandoah Section is pleased to announce this year’s Fall Symposium will be held in Luray, Virginia on September 23 and 24. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Prospects for Growth and Development in Emerging Rural Communities.” This one and half day event will feature a day- long presentation and workshop by Randall Arendt on “Conservation Design and Commercial Corridors.” The second, half day will offer six individual sessions and a mobile workshop. More details on the individual sessions and mobile workshop will be forthcoming.

Accomodations
The Mimslyn Inn is an exceptional facility, built in the 1930’s and recently undergoing an $8 million major renovation. There are only 45 rooms in the Mimslyn Inn so they are available on a first come, first serve basis. Of the 45 rooms, 19 are suites.
The Mimslyn Inn has offered a Symposium rate of $79.00 per night based on a two-night reservation. Please mention that you are attending the Fall Symposium when making reservations.

There will be two concurrent tracks offered between 8:30 -11:30 AM.

Track B – Speakeasy Lounge
- VDOT’s Requirements for Transportation Analysis and Small Communities
- Planning for Expanded Bus Service: Using Citizen Survey Data to Replace Existing Service
- Implementing Zoning Ordinance Changes in Altavista and Updating the Comprehensive Plan in Luray
- A mobile workshop will also be offered that will highlight the Town of Luray’s trail system, the use of Enhancement Grant funds and the public process that culminated in the prized network. The workshop will begin at 8:30 AM and ending by 10:30 AM.
