There are those that are wary of new trends toward form based code. Frank Duke, Director of Planning, implemented them in Durham before arriving here. And in Northern Virginia, ULI speakers told us about the Ballston Corridor. Portsmouth has had charrettes and concepts ready to put in place. The Portsmouth District Ordinance went into effect January 1, 2020. Virginia Beach with its Strategic Growth Areas is incorporating form based code in its planning processes/documents. Right now VB is implementing form based code for the Oceanfront Strategic Growth Plan! Norfolk also has revised its Code to include this approach. We are a long way from the old suburbia modes that had their heyday. Newport News is also incorporating this type of zoning in its Phase II for City Center! What is the new, new to be learned now?
— What is form based code?
— How does it work?
— Why is it critical for the future in context of land use trends and demographics?
— How a City implements form based code
— What the next steps are!
